BSMDDS66 – DONNA FISK – CRYING OVER

Dark and drowning in my sorrows …this ain’t no party tune..

Some songs are such that they can become an individual’s

personal interpretation.

Make of it what you will, but for me it rang of the opinion that Joy seems so fleeting and sorrow lingers …

Memories flood back of good times that live in the

shadow of losing dear ones….

There are songs for a time, songs that take you back to a time,

“CRYING OVER” is one of those songs

BSMDDS65: RONNIE JOUDO - ROADSIDE ANGELS

ROADSIDE ANGELS

from the DAMN THIS TOWN album.

Listen to track sample

BSMDDS65 – RONNIE JOUDO – ROADSIDE ANGELS

Roadside Angels is a song about a miner who would travel 1 1/2 hrs. to work every day along an outback road. He would reflect on the crosses, monuments, flowers and pictures on telegraph poles, fences or pinned to the ground, on the side of the road. He thinks about how sad it was to have lost their lives whilst travelling on the road, who they were, where they were heading, and how difficult it would have been for loved ones to have found out about their loss. He calls them “Roadside Angels”. This is a true story that needed to be told.

DRINK OUR BLUES AWAY

from the HONKY TONK LIFE album.

Listen to track sample

BSMDDS64 – JASON McDANIEL – DRINK OUR BLUES AWAY

Written by Jason McDaniel, ‘Drink Our Blues Away’ is about the Monday to Friday grind, long weeks, aching backs, and the desire to play up at the end of the week, because we’ve had enough, and we need a break.

The chorus in the song relates to those of us who might remember getting our pay packet on Friday, spending it down at the pub Friday night, and wake up Saturday morning broke until next pay day, but we had a great time doing it and can’t wait to do it all again.

When it all comes down to it, ‘Drink Our Blues Away’ is about working hard and enjoying life at every chance. It’s another light-hearted song from this Rowdy Outlaw Australian Singer songwriter.

Do you remember when we were kids and on Saturday afternoons at the movies, we enjoyed the cowboy pictures and went home afterwards to become those “western heroes”?

That’s what this song is about as we dream of “cleaning up the town” with our six guns, big white horse and trusty side-kick. We may have even won the best girl and moved on when our job was done.

Some of our favourite cowboys could sing and somehow did it with a band and four-part harmony backing. Happy Trails!

THE PUB AT GRABBEN GULLEN

from the SINGLE album.

Listen to track sample

BSMDDS56 – ERIC READ – THE PUB AT GRABBEN GULLEN

The Pub at Grabben Gullen, a new release by award-winning Australian songwriter Eric Read, was inspired by his own father’s story of a sentimental time with his dear old dad just before World War Two.

The song rekindles Sydney-born John Read’s story about a special memory he cherished of a country drive in the family Studebaker with his dear old dad Alexander Gordon Read. They were driving north from Goulburn, beneath the summer sky, when the pub at Grabben Gullen - The Albion - caught their eye.

John Read died in 2013 and his father Alexander Gordon Read tragically died in the early 1950s.

Eric Read kept notes of his father’s story of this special time and recently recorded The Pub at Grabben Gullen at his Sunshine Coast studio. It has been released in time for Father’s Day 2021.

"The Pub At Grabben Gullen" was recorded in Eric’s Sunshine Coast studio and Leo Dalton’s studio in Upwey, Victoria.

We sought permission to reproduce the old photo of The Albion Hotel from the Australian National University archives. Permission was granted and we have been asked to acknowledge the source as follows: Noel Butlin Archives Centre, Australian National University.

BSMDDS52: NEIL ANTHONY - GOING HOME

GOING HOME

from the NEIL ANTHONY CONCERT MIX album.

Listen to track sample

BSMDDS52 – NEIL ANTHONY – GOING HOME

Neil Anthony’s “Going Home” is an uplifting country song with all the ‘bells and whistles’.

To start with, pedal steel guitar and incredible live tracked banjo pickin’. This is augmented with Neil Anthony’s full country soft rock band sound. All with neat harmonies to brighten your day.

The song title is a bit of a cliché. “Going Home”. There are many songs about going home. Neil Anthony’s take on the theme is about going back to his home town of Orange. Neil says, “I had to leave my home town to follow my dream. But I never forget the joyous place where I grew up. That feeling of a seemingly innocent childhood comes back when I’m… going home.”

This song is one for the escapist who doesn’t mind a bit of nostalgia. From Neil’s perspective this song comes straight from the heart.

As usual with Neil Anthony’s music the production on this track sets a high technical bar. Recorded at Powerhouse with well-known Sydney session musos. It’s an independent Aussie music production.

You can find Neil Anthony’s music on YouTube, Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Spotify, etc.

“The only problem with this song is that it’s just too nice. You just want to listen to it again and again. It has such a positive vibe”

“Going Home” – Written and Produced by Neil Anthony

THE WHITE CAT'S SONG

from the SINGLE album.

Listen to track sample

BSMDDS51 – LEO DALTON (with ERIC READ) – THE WHITE CAT’S SONG

“The White Cat's Song” is a deeply personal tribute to Jacinta Read's late father Cec "The White Cat", a cheeky character, larrikin shearer and bushy. Cec's story turned into a song as we sought to better understand my father, his struggles with alcoholism and to remember "The White Cat" with love.

The song is a collaboration between Jacinta Read (lyrics), Eric Read (arrangement) and our dear friend Leo Dalton (arrangement and vocals). Created together during the great divide of 2020/21 between our home on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, and Leo's home in Victoria.

from the LBS COUNTRY COLLECTION VOL.26 album.

BSMDDS50 – SHAZA LEIGH – THE OLD HOME’S GONE

Recently time for reflection has become part of our everyday lives. Australia’s First Lady Of Song, Shaza Leigh OWB, has delivered an emotive story of loss of family ties with the demise of the old childhood home.

Growing up on the family cane and cattle property in The Whitsundays helped form her deep love of family, homeland and country which is often evident in the writers’ work. ‘The Old Home’s Gone’ is dedicated to all the families who have tragically lost their home to a bushfire.

Shaza Leigh has become an extremely gifted and powerful performer; augmented by her writing ability and her outstanding production with husband/producer, Lindsay Butler OAM and their LBS musician roster, a new Shaza Leigh track never disappoints.

Listen to track sample

BSMDDS49 – KERRIGAN LA-BROOY – TOGETHER TONIGHT

Following his Seven Number 1 singles, Kerrigan La-Brooy is back with his 8th release, titled “Together Tonight”.

This song is written by Kerrigan and just won the 5th Annual LDM Music Awards in New York in the Country Category. ‘Together Tonight’ is upbeat and uplifting and just what one needs during these unprecedented times to get us up and dancing and to drive away those pandemic blues.

Kerrigan’s voice sounds bright and inspiring on this track and his lyrics reflect on the importance of staying true to the love of your life and not letting anything or anyone come between you because it’s too late to turn back time. Kerrigan’s advice is: “When you find the right one, stay true and faithful to one another – if you don’t, you’ll end up wishing you were ‘Together Tonight’.”

Kerrigan has always recognised the importance of radio airplay and DJ support, and he continues to appreciate the fact that without the wonderful radio presenters, listeners and chart compilers, artists can sing till they’re blue in the face, but to no avail. He offers his profuse thanks to everyone and hopes you enjoy his latest track.

BSMDDS46: PAUL SEILS JNR - LOVE IS A CIRCLE

LOVE IS A CIRCLE

from the SINGLE album.

Listen to track sample

BSMDDS46 – PAUL SEILS JNR – LOVE IS A CIRCLE

A brand new single, Love Is A Circle is helping to keep a mate’s memory alive for Brisbane based artist, Paul Seils JNR.

Celebrating life and love and remembering a friend is behind the new single from Paul Seils JNR, Love Is A Circle, while raising money for a cause close to his heart. The Sunshine Coast Artist recorded Love Is A Circle in memory of close friend Brenton (Washuntara) Roberts. Brenton was one of the founders of Circle of Men, which operates in Australia and the US and other parts of the world as an informal support group of men for men which offered fellowship and friendship. The song also has a deeper meaning now following Brenton’s passing earlier this year, as the theme of the song encourages people to share their stories and use love to lift others up.

Paul wants to spread messages of positivity and love with his music especially during our current climate. “With the stress and anxiety that we’re dealing with at the moment in the world, sometimes love gets forgotten because everything else seems more important."

BSMDDS44 – WARREN KEARNEY – THE MURRAY COD WALTZ

This is a really quirky, funny song co-written by Maurie Marion again and the Video is really worth a look. Maurie has gone all out and made an animated Video this time round and has me singing under water and blowing bubbles. The song is based around our country’s famous Murray Cod and all of its quirks and foibles and also starring in the video is a funny little Red Claw Lobster.  Maurie Marion also has a cameo role in this video, so you can play “Where’s Maurie” and see if you can find him. He’s really well hidden.  To view the video go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBrLxSZ8s1M

The lyrics are by Maurie Marion, the music by myself, Warren Kearney.  All of the arrangements, vocals, harmony vocals, and all instrumentation have been done by myself.  I have recorded the song and mastered it.

If you would like to know more about our iconic Murray Cod you can go to this link https://www.bushheritage.org.au/species/murray-cod

I hope that you enjoy both the song and the YouTube Video.  Thank you so much for your support over the past year because without you on Radio, all of what I have achieved would have been impossible.

THE DOBRO SONG

from the ANYONE CAN FLY! album.

Listen to track sample

BSMDDS43 – GEOFF WILLIAMS – THE DOBRO SONG

This is a song about a classic instrument which has been used for Hawaiian, Bluegrass, old time, modern and jazz music almost from the beginning of time. It deserved a song of its own.

It certainly embellishes country music and gives it a unique appeal. The dobro (lap steel guitar) is still as popular as ever and this is a well-deserved tribute.

Geoff Williams wrote the words and tune and Dobro master, Gary Brown played it superbly on this recording which he compiled in his Brookvale Studios.

When George Jones died his band recorded a version of this song on a tribute album which was number one on the U.S charts in 2014.

Following on from his beautiful country ballad ‘Our Everlasting Love’, Rhys Warner now shows his versatility and struts his stuff with this smokin’ new track ‘Smokin’ The Narrows’. Rhys puts his Gretsch guitar through its paces with his high-spirited catchy tune. This beautifully crafted original gem is guaranteed to get your toes tapping and is perfectly suited for radio.

“I composed 'Smokin’ The Narrows’ and then thought .. ''What am I going to call this?” It reminded me of the backing music for a tv sitcom such as ‘The Dukes of Hazzard' with the car chase scenes. It made me think of when I was in my teens. All of my friends and I used to gather every weekend at a spot called ''The Narrows'' just outside my hometown of Murchison NZ. It was a stretch of smooth black seal, a road that no one drove down, because of a new road that led to Nelson. We used to smoke up the tyres on our cars, yep typical teenage stuff, no one ever got hurt.”

BSMDDS41 – DAVID CURTIS – LIVING THE WALTZ

For years I played Returned Services Clubs where people would come to dance…couples, groups of friends and individuals looking for social interaction, companionship…. a dance partner.

They would arrive with their dance shoes in a bag.

I would watch the ‘lonely eyes wander’ around the room, looking for, waiting for an opportunity to ask or be asked to dance.

When they did eventually ‘step out’ onto the dance floor, it was such a rewarding experience for me as the singer to watch these people lose themselves in the music and the dance, and be ‘set free’ in the moment, from the week’s grind, troubles and sometimes loneliness.

I thought this was a great story for a song.

Vanessa Bourne has been traditionally yours in music with her songs like Don’t Judge Me, Young At Heart, Lyin’ Cheatin’ Heart and many more.

Vanessa was approached to include Haggard In The Air, which is written by Greg Tardie, to her album YOUNG AT HEART. Which she gladly recorded.  There was no question she would record it. Merle Haggard would have to be Vanessa’s most admired artist and she jokingly adds, ‘I would include Mr. Haggard’s name in every song if I could’.

Haggard In The Air is nominated at The Josie Music Awards for Traditional Country Song of the year 2021.

BSMDDS35 – BRIANA DINSDALE – WHY DID I FALL FOR YOU?

It’s easy to understand why Brisbane, Australia’s Briana Dinsdale is a singer-songwriter catching the attention of country music fans across the world. At just 17-years-old she combines a fresh energy with a voice and songwriting ability that is beyond her age. Building off the success of her first album “Beginnings”, Briana recently announced the release of its second single, the emotionally-charged “Why Did I Fall for You?” It’s quite clear the new song shows the young artist at her best and is sure to touch many hearts.

“Why Did I Fall for You?” is all about the hard times that come along with leaving someone or something that’s held dear, with the feeling of loss and longing that can be so hard to overcome. I wrote ‘Why Did I Fall for You?’ about my personal connection with the Tamworth Country Music Festival and how difficult it is to leave at the end and how having to wait a whole year to have that feeling again is so difficult.”

Words and music written by Briana and Ken Dinsdale.

Backing Vocals – Louise Wheatley

BSMDDS33 – ADAM JAMES – BLAME IT ON THE WEATHER

Adam James announces the release of both his album ‘Russian Blue’ and the new single ‘Blame It On The Weather’. This 3rd studio album for Adam James, takes a stylistic change.  Recorded on blues holy land in Nashville’s The Sound Emporium, James has connected with long-time producer Stuie French and a backing band of local greats whose veins bleed Blues and Roots.

‘Russian Blue’ explores themes of coming to terms with profound human experiences and facing up to truths, as difficult as that may be. It is poignant that James finds himself in Nashville, the very place where Henry Howden coined the term, “three chords and the truth” to create his watershed album.

When asked about this latest beautiful easy listening single Adam said …

“Blame It On The Weather'' is a track I wrote about the mixed emotions of broken love from a family member living in the Big Apple, New York City.  This lived experience was amplified by the fact they were so far away from home and feeling isolated walking the streets of a concrete jungle looking for an answer or something to blame everything on.”

“Come Back Baby” is a song written by me about a life experience. I find that writing about things from my life experiences is somewhat easy to do.

So, with the support and encouragement from my wife and also the mentoring and guidance from Vanessa Bourne, who spurred me on to believe in myself, I have decided to write my own material for all to enjoy.

This being my first single, I was lucky to have Vanessa there from start to finish to guide me through this process so, a big thank you to Vanessa and my wife Tracy for having faith in me. I hope this song relates to all who hear it and that they enjoy it. I now give to you “Come Back Baby” Written and composed by me…. Enjoy.

BSMDDS31 – WARREN KEARNEY – WHO’LL REMEMBER THE MEMORIES

“Who’ll Remember The Memories” delves into the problem of our memories not being passed onto the next generation.  Imagine the stories that died with our Great Great Grandparents being available to us now.  Even our parents’ memories are at best, only passed on by word of mouth. Their stories change with each telling and with that, our history is being lost.  We hope that you enjoy this thought-provoking track.

“Who’ll Remember The Memories” was composed by Warren Kearney and presented to you in song by the smooth vocals of Warren, with the lyrics written by Maurie Marion who also produced the video.  Warren and Maurie have worked together extensively over the past ten or more years and as usual the combination of their individual skill sets has produced a wonderful result.

This song is the title track of Warren Kearney’s upcoming much awaited Album “Who’ll Remember The Memories” and is the third song from the album to be released in 2021. All of these releases made it to the Top 40 Country Airplay Charts and the album will be available in early October this year.

BSMDDS30 – THE MARTY ROSE BAND – ELVIS TCB

ELVIS TCB was written by Grammy nominee, Aria Hall of Fame recipient, and former lead guitarist/songwriter of the original Little River Band, David Briggs, and recorded by Melbourne based Marty Rose Band (MRB) for their forthcoming album The Tear Drop Line. The song is a tribute to the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, and pays homage to the man, while saluting all who continue to live in hope of sighting the legend himself.

The song was recorded and produced by Briggs at his studio, The Production Workshop, in North Melbourne, Australia. It was recorded several times, but the final take only came together when Gil Matthews (Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs) joined the band.

Briggs originally wrote the song on a mandolin while traveling to the Daintree Rainforest in Northern Queensland, inspired by a newspaper story about the Parkes Elvis Festival held in NSW annually that attracts thousands of Elvis fans from across the globe. The impact that Elvis Presley had on music clearly lives on today.

The Marty Rose Band is:

David Briggs (guitar/vocals/production) – former LRB

Pip Joyce (guitar/vocals) – Glenn Shorrock Band, Brian Cadd band

He has one problem which is his inability to afford either an airfare or a ship’s voyage across the Tasman Sea.

“I thought that this was a much-needed song”, says Geoff. “I kept hearing people talking about New Zealand and referring to it as being just across the ditch and thinking how one day someone would be sure to write a song about it. I thought that it may as well be me.”

Kerrigan is a multi-talented, multi award-winning singer/songwriter who has always recognised the importance of radio airplay and DJ support, and he continues to appreciate the fact that without the wonderful radio presenters, listeners and chart compilers, artists can sing till they’re blue in the face and get nowhere. I wrote this song about my beautiful late wife, Lorna who sadly passed away almost 7 years ago.

She changed my life in many ways; she was a professional dancer and singer on TV, radio and recorded many songs as one half of the Barry Sisters in the 1950s & ‘60s. I was a hopeless dancer but, when I held her in my arms, she changed all that.  She remains in my fondest memories every minute of every day.

I hope you enjoy my song as much as I love to sing it.

BSMDDS21 – NEIL ANTHONY – MOUNTAIN HIGH

With winter approaching Neil Anthony presents his song ‘Mountain High’. It is a song about the joy of being up above the snow line. The song was inspired by a beautiful trip to the snowfields around Thredbo and Mt Selwyn. The clear fresh air, the still beauty and the sparkling colours. It’s a different world above the snow line.

Lost in the words to describe the serenity Neil Anthony wrote this song late in the evening sitting by a log fire.

‘Mountain High’ reflects Neil Anthony’s usual high production values with incredible audio tracking on this song. Layers of clear harmony intertwine with rich acoustic guitars including a sumptuous weaving dobro slide. All supported by a cloud of soft pads and swaying percussion.

The 4th single from Aly Cook’s ARIA and NZ official charting album ‘Caught in the Middle’. As Aly makes her way across the Tasman for the first time in 14 months.

Cook said “To me this is a very personal story of a back injury that stopped her riding.  After years of breeding and training horses, including breeding and selling a show jumper to the King of Bahrain in 2009. To stop riding was a big thing. I know the life of dedication to horses. I took the song to Allan Caswell, we worked on it one lovely afternoon in the Blue Mountains. Allan introduced Henry into the picture who passes away in the song, so a story of love, life and horses.

A beautiful, but simple country story song with lovely acoustic guitar accompaniment by Dean Ray with Backing Vocals by Buzz & Kay Bidstrup and Aly. Mixed and Produced by Graham ‘Buzz’ Bidstrup (GANGgajang) with ARIA Award Winning Producer/ Engineer Dave Nicholas at Asquith Studios Sydney.  The single is accompanied by a music video filmed by Amy Shields and edited by Sweet As Media in New Zealand.

BSMDDS19 - NOEL BALFOUR & THE CHRIS SAXTON BAND – TOO MANY TIMES (RE-RELEASE)

This song has a good track record. I wrote it with the aid of my late wife, Lorna Barry who was a very popular singer with her sister, Dorothy known together as the Barry Sisters.  She graciously left her name off it.

The great Australian, Jimmy Little, liked it and recorded it on Festival Records.  It was then picked up by the very popular Val Doonican in the United Kingdom who released it on the ‘A’ side of his single on Pye Records.  It was so popular that it was covered by Gunnar Wiklund of Sweden where he recorded it in Swedish, then by a German and a Dane who also recorded it in their respective languages.

It was covered by other Australians and now by me.  I love singing it and I hope one day someone else might like it and record it again.

from the SINGLE album.

BSMDDS17 – CRANDALL CREEK – DON’T CRY MARY

Crandall Creek offers a gospel song this Easter through the eyes of Mary.

Only she knows the pain of losing a Son who preached across the land, welcomed sinners and healed the sick. But in the end … He shed his blood to save us all.

So don’t cry, Mary. Your Son died for the greater good.

Crandall Creek’s Jerry Andrews says he wrote the song after listening to a sermon about what Mary might have been thinking as she watched from the foot of the cross as her Son was being crucified.

“I wrote half of it in my head in church,” Jerry says, “and when I came home I sat down and fifteen minutes later it was finished”

That was several years ago. “it’s always been a song my wife, Sharon, has loved.”

The time to record the song arrived this year. “We’ve been waiting for the singer who could relay what I felt as I wrote the song.“ Jerry says. “Abby Latocha brings that emotion to the surface the way I always wanted to hear it sung.”

Many will know Neil Anthony’s song ‘April the 25th’. It has been played on Anzac Day in RSL’s, Schools and nationally on both commercial and community radio. Blue Shamrock is pleased to rerelease the song for Anzac Day 2021.

Neil writes – “This song was inspired by my Uncle Lloyd who served in the Australian Army in the Second World War and saw active duty in New Guinea.  My Uncle Lloyd has marched in Sydney, carrying the Australian flag, at every Anzac Day March since the end of WWII with his fellow veterans of the 14 Aust Field Regiment. Lloyd won’t be marching this year but at age 97 his son will push him in a wheelchair for this year’s march.

Anzac Day is one of the most important days in our year - a holy day. In writing this song I have tried to treat the subject with the utmost respect. I have nothing but admiration for my Uncle and those like him who were prepared to offer themselves to defend our freedom.”

BSMDDS14 – GEOFF WILLIAMS – MY 38

What is a “38”?

Rail enthusiasts will know that it was a C class locomotive made in Australia. There were 2 types of 38s, painted green in their heydays.

3801 was a magnificent, streamlined engine made in Sydney in 1943.

Other similar locos were made in Sydney and apparently there were difficulties in cleaning so the “streamlining” parts were removed. The new locos were still 38s but had a smoke stack and other excrescences. Some of these were made at Cardiff Workshops in Newcastle. They were still very impressive machines.

Both of these locomotives were used on the Sydney/Newcastle Express known affectionately as “The Flyer”.

My family travelled frequently on this train, and so did I when I was working in Sydney. We loved both of the locomotives and always checked to see which one was pulling the train before we set off on each journey.

My father often took us on The Flyer from Newcastle to Sydney, just for the day and we loved it. As children, my three siblings and I virtually grew up with the “38s” as if they were a part of the family, and still remember them with affection.

For my ninth birthday, Dad (a carpenter) made me a copy of a 38. He knew that I liked the non-streamlined model. I found it languishing in his shed after he had passed away and was happy to restore it to its original glory… and still have it proudly in my possession.

3801 is housed in the Thirlmere Rail Museum and often comes out for a run.

To celebrate 60 years as a recording artist JOHNNY CHESTER is to releasing a BRAND NEW single. ”IF I LIVED HERE (I’d Be Home Now)” is a song Chess has had on his must record list for almost fifty years. Very much in the RETRO COUNTRY style that he loves the song was written by the Great American singer/songwriter Bill Anderson (Tips Of My Fingers, Still, Get A Little Dirt On Your Hands, to name just a few of the hits Bill has written).

“I have had this song for almost 50 years and always felt it was right for me” said Johnny so he and Geoff Peterkin worked on it for quite a while with some of Australia’s finest musicians to come up with this version “of which we are very proud”. “Geoff played drums, engineered and mixed the track and even sang the harmony parts, busy wasn’t he”?

“IF I LIVED HERE (I’d Be Home Now) is set for global release on Friday March 5th 2021 on Spotify, Apple Music and all other major streaming platforms. The E.P. “RETRO COUNTRY” will follow later in the year.

PERFORMING IN TAMWORTH 2020 INSPIRED ME TO WRITE “AUSSIE PROUD”.  I DIDN’T REALISE HOW PROUD I WAS TO CALL MYSELF AUSTRALIAN. BORN IN BALMAIN MY START IN LIFE WAS A LITTLE ROUGH. I CAN STILL REMEMBER THE ADDRESS WHERE WE LIVED. IT WAS CAMPBELL ST BALMAIN. I VISITED THE OLD HOUSE ON ONE OF MY VISITS. THAT WAS VERY EMOTIONAL FOR ME.

EARLIEST MEMORIES OF MY CHILDHOOD DAYS IN SHELLHARBOUR WERE PURE JOY.  I ALWAYS VISIT SHELLHARBOUR WHENEVER I GET HOME. I VISIT THE PRIMARY SCHOOL WHERE I SPENT MANY HAPPY DAYS SINGING IN THE PLAYGROUND TO MY SCHOOL MATES, ONE OF WHOM I STILL CALL ON THE PHONE REGULARLY. WE CHAT ABOUT THOSE DAYS AND ALL THE FUN WE HAD.

WE REALLY DID HAVE CAMPFIRES ON THE BEACH AS TEENS. SITTING AROUND THE FIRE SINGING OUR FAVOURITE SONGS WHICH MORE OFTEN THAN NOT WERE COUNTRY SONGS. THE FIRST BAND I EVER SANG WITH “THE TORNADOES” HAD A MANAGER WHO INSISTED I SING COUNTRY AND SO THE FIRST COUNTRY SONG I EVER SANG WAS PATSY CLINES’ “I FALL TO PIECES.  STILL SINGING IT!!

I AM SO PROUD TO SHARE MY SONGS WITH AUSTRALIA AND THIS PARTICULAR SONG IS VERY CLOSE TO MY HEART. IT IS THE FIRST SONG I HAVE EVER WRITTEN ABOUT AUSTRALIA AND I PROMISE IT WILL NOT BE THE LAST. NO MATTER WHERE THIS “BALMAIN GIRL” LAYS HER HEAD SHE WILL ALWAYS BE AN “AUSSIE” AND “AUSSIE PROUD”

from the HEADED SOUTH album.

BSMDDS6 – CRANDALL CREEK – THIS HEART OF MINE

If you enjoyed their debut single release "Drivin' Me Insane," from their album, “Headed South”,you will surely welcome Crandall Creek's new ballad, "This Heart of Mine" with lead vocal supplied by Abby Latocha.

Songwriter and founder of Crandall Creek, Jerry Andrews, describes the song as a ballad about a young girl who falls in love only later to end the relationship with a broken heart. In the song, she suffers a painful letting go of her feelings for the person and is unable to move on.

Like so many first loves who do not work out, she dreams of what could have been. The song wraps up with the main character accepting that given the same opportunity, the outcome of the relationship would have been the same. She learns there was nothing she could have done to change the outcome. The song is about acceptance and moving on when a love affair doesn't work out as one had planned.

Appalachian love, coal mining, and heartfelt spiritual songs can be heard and enjoyed as familiar themes in Crandall Creek recordings. Their vocals are as unique and authentic as only a group, who create music by writing, traveling, and performing consistently together, can deliver. Although they are not family, they sound and perform music like the best family bands in the industry. Crandall Creek's bluegrass music is as authentic as the hills of West Virginia. It doesn't get any better than that!

This single Don’t Judge Me is released as a celebration of the success of her Album.  This song is nominated for Song of the year at the Academy Of World Artists in America and hopefully it would have the same success here in Australia.  Written by her producer Curt Ryle and John Castleberry this song has tones of Patsy Cline and written so beautifully to tell a story of the heart trying to cope with a heartache.

Though Vanessa has written and co-written about 7 songs on the album she says this would have to be her favourite song.  Vanessa is always thankful to radio stations that support her music and she will always keep her heart Country, Traditional Country!!

Vanessa made it as a finalist at the Australian County Music People’s Choice Awards for Female Vocalist Of The Year, Album Of The Year and Song of the year.

BSMDDS4 - NOEL BALFOUR & THE CHRIS SAXTON BAND – I’D WALK A HUNDRED MILES (RE-RELEASE)

The melody came to me in my sleep about 4 months ago.

I had no idea about a title or lyrics and then about 4 weeks ago, I was thinking about Lorna, as I always do, about when I was courting her.

She lived at one end of Sydney and I was at the other end.  It was too far to ride my horse, so I used to walk to public transport and travel at least 5 times a week to see her for 12 months until she agreed to marry me, so the lyrics came to me straight from the heart, “I’d walk a hundred miles to be with you.”

With the help of Chris Saxton & Andy Busuttil of Blue Mountain Sound, I recorded it, I hope you like it.

BSMDDS3 – ERIC READ – PROUD TO BE AN ANZAC (THE BALLAD OF BILLY TORRANCE)

Proud to Be an Anzac (The Ballad of Billy Torrance) is a tribute to Private William Torrance (17/201 Otago Regiment, NZEF), who served in Egypt 1915-16 and on the Western Front 1916-17, at times serving alongside his brother John Westland Torrance.

Tragically, scarred by war physically and mentally, Private William Torrance took his own life in his hometown of Cromwell on New Zealand’s South Island not long after returning home from war, in January 1920, 100 years ago this year. Private William “Billy” Torrance was 29 years old.

A few years after the tragic death of his brother, John Westland Torrance (whose middle name is derived from the Westland Ranges in NZ) his wife Ella and children, including Eric Read’s mother Ada (Madge) Torrance, emigrated to Australia and settled in southwest Victoria.

Madge Torrance served in the Australian Women’s Army Service during World War Two and and at the end of World War Two met her husband John Frederick Read, who also served in New Guinea.

Written by former journalist and publisher Jacinta Read in 2020, Proud to be an Anzac (The Ballad of Billy Torrance) is about an imagined graveside conversation between Jacinta’s husband Eric Read and his great uncle, Private William “Billy” Torrance.

Born in Hannibal and raised in Paris, Missouri, a young Becky actually sang before she spoke her first words.  Her childhood was filled with singing, and she had a natural feel for showmanship right from the start.  Entertaining others has been a constant in her life ever since, whether singing back every TV commercial she would hear, performing in a 6th grade talent show with a song by her musical favorite, Dolly Parton, or eventually cheerleading for the Missouri Tigers in college.  Becky loves to perform, and you feel it the instant she walks on stage.

In the last few years, Becky has made her presence known in Nashville, producing new music with a bevy of talented musicians and songwriters.  Several of Becky’s most recent songs were produced by Brent Rader (Joe Nichols, Jo Dee Messina), and she continues to collaborate with her husband, Nashville touring and session drummer, Will Denton (Tracy Lawrence, LeAnn Rimes, Steven Curtis Chapman).  Being immersed in the creative community there has brought about tremendous growth both personally and musically.  Her latest material convincingly presents a new benchmark in her writing and vocal abilities.  Becky's release, "Take Me Back to Tybee," co-written by Becky, Will, and fellow songwriter friend, Bill Whyte, received widespread airplay in the Tropical-Americana radio format, and it climbed to #1 on the Weekly Trop 40 Chart.  Becky can also add International Singing Star to her list of accomplishments - her song, “I Love Dolly,” went to #18 on the Australian Country Radio charts, and her single “Two Bags, One Beach” was the most downloaded song on Australia’s Country Radio Singles #210 Compilation CD.

Becky is proud to announce her album, "Fire & Grace," won The 18th Annual Independent Music Awards in the Country Album category.
